International Women’s Day

International Women’s Day

Today, March 8th, is International Women’s Day! This day is not as widely celebrated in the United States as it is in other countries, such as China where it is a national holiday. But here at Dear She we think it’s very important to honor how far women have come and those that have helped us on our journey. A great resource for learning more about International Women’s Day is http://www.internationalwomensday.com where you can read about the day’s history, tune in to social media, and find Women’s Day events around the world. In their history of this day the site explains that “International Women’s Day is a global day for celebrating the economic, political and social achievements of women past, present and future…Suffragettes campaigned for women’s right to vote. The word ‘Suffragette’ is derived from the word “suffrage” meaning the right to vote. International Women’s Day honours the work of the Suffragettes, celebrates women’s success, and reminds us of inequities still to be addressed.”
Our goal at Dear She is to honor, celebrate and help women everyday. We want to be a safe space for women to speak their minds. And International Women’s Day is for us to remember the women who weren’t afraid to speak their minds for us, and thanks those that continue to do so. So today, celebrate those women, celebrate the women in your life, and celebrate yourself
